Yesterday my hometown put on an awesome race! The Derby Running Club held their 36th annual Firecracker 4 mile run on the 4th of July. Now I haven’t done a fast race in quite a while…Since I started training for the half this spring my focus hasn’t been on speed much. I have just been focused on logging the miles.
Whelp because of that, this was a tough race for me but I’m happy with how I did. I finished in under my goal time. I made a new PR for the 5K during the race and had a blast running this local race with some friends! I’m pretty happy with all of that.
The race itself is an awesome course. It starts in our local park, goes out around the high school and then finishes off with a lap around the park to complete the 4 mile loop.
My splits for the race were pretty good. The only problem was I started out WAY too fast and payed for it later in the race but that is the nature of racing. I know better for next time I do another short race!
