I hate working my core and I’m fine admitting that. However, being a physical thrapist, that is a big no-no. I mean come on, if you have ever been to physical therapy before you know that your P.T. will preach to you about how important good core strength is. Yeah well I am one of those therapists that will preach this to you non-stop but I suck at doing it myself. I’m a classic example of do as I say not as I do in terms of core work. SO, to get my core back into shape I decided to do this 2 week plank challenge.
Planks have a lot of benefits. For one, they are an equipment free exercise. Two, they kick your butt. But there are some other great reasons to focus on planks as well.
Struggle with push-ups? It might be due to a poor core and not chest strength. Use those planks to better your push-up form and number of reps.
Planks work your core in an amazing way. When done correctly they can activate your transverse abdominus which helps to stabilize your back and keep you injury free.
Not only are they a core exercise but they are technically full body. From your shoulders to core, back, glutes, and quads, you are able to hit most major muscles with this one exercise.
